Depeche Mode

Významná anglická syntipopová skupina, zpočátku částečně ovlivněna punkem, později Kraftwerkem a na počátku 80. let často řazena i ke stylu new romance. Vzniká v r. 1976 v Basildonu. Clarke začínal jako kytarista ve sk. Romance In China. Původní trojice Clarke - Gore - Fletcher (všichni ročník 1961) začínala pod názvy Lemon Peels, Changes apod. Poté se přidal Gahan (nar. 1962). V r. 1980 se objevuje 1. jejich skladba na kompilaci Some Bizarre Album. Počátkem následujícího roku se potkávají s Danielem Millerem, šéfem Mute Records. Podepisují nahrávací smlouvu a ještě v roce 1981 mají několik úspěšných singlů. V prosinci ale odchází V. Clarke (následně založí Yazoo) a na jeho místo přichází v lednu 1982 A. Wilder (nar. 1963).
